I oppose this bill on the grounds of it gutting protections for flora and fauna at the most risk. I have dedicated the past few years of my life to volunteering in community conservation efforts that specifically involve species at risk, and it breaks my heart to think that the government will make all of the work that myself, and the hundred other volunteers in my group, and hundreds of other volunteers in groups like mine, mean nothing all for the sake of building more multimillion dollar houses that will be divided into multiple units to rent out for thousands of dollars each.
It is not redundant to protect endangered species, to protect migratory birds, to protect aquatic life under both federal and provincial legislation. The protections are there in provincial legislation because federal legislation is often broad strokes, and its vagueness allows for some protections to fall through.
Wildlife needs to be protected. Did the Ford government try to erase the license plate slogan "Yours to Discover" years ago because this is what they were planning, for there to be nothing left in Ontario to discover? No more forests or greenbelt or wetlands that house beautiful animals?
Please reconsider this bill. We do not want this.
