I live in Toronto and feel that the currently proposed Bill 5 is a province wide enablement and legalization of both attempted and successful actions that were previously made by this provincial government against the land in and around the GTA. From what I have gathered this bill will allow to create regulation free zones anywhere in Ontario. That these zones will be exempt from provincial and municipal laws. That they will also be a new way to trample on indigenous land rights. This sounds like a province wide amplified version of the unsuccessful attack on Toronto's greenbelt previously made by this provincial government.
Also bill 5 intends to repeal the Endangered Species Act, replacing it with something that deeply scales back the rules. This sounds like construction developments that cause atrocities against nature, like the recent complete destruction of an (urban) forest at Ontario Place in Toronto, will be enabled to be repeated, at much larger scales, in much less visible areas all over the province.
Lastly, only one month was given for public consultation for this bill. I understand that this is an unusually short window of time for a bill. This seems like a purposeful tactic to minimize Ontario citizens awareness of this bill prior to it being passed, which deeply diminishes our opportunites to exercise our league enshrined rights to have our voices heard.
