I strongly oppose the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act of 2007. The phrasing of the proposal suggests that preserving natural areas and endangered species hinders economic progress, which is a very selfish and limited perspective, especially at a time when protecting the environment is crucial to avoid climate disaster. Vulnerable land in Ontario, particularly in areas of the GTA such as the Greenbelt, Niagara Escarpment, and Oak Ridges Moraine, should be protected from developers who only care about their bottom line regardless of the long-term impact on the environment. If developers had more imagination and were willing to take more economic risks, they could be creative and focus their energies on post-industrial lands, high-density residential structures, and expanding public transit. Economic growth of infrastructure and housing isn't stymied by ecological protections - that claim is only made out of laziness and unwillingness to problem-solve more creative solutions.
Do not change the Act as it stands. The only "timeline" the government need concern themselves with is how long the planet will remain sustainable for human life under the current rate of increasing global temperatures.
