This proposal to take potentially massive volumes of water from the Saugeen river should not be permitted to proceed without a thorough environmental assessment by a qualified scientific body. The river is presently clear and excellent fish habitat, which could all change with added sediment and temperature rise caused by the pit and water taking. To allow this project and the others nearby to proceed without more study amounts to gross negligence and a lack of care for any values beyond immediate profit. The river and its environment are far too important to simply assume they do not matter.
