I am submitting this comment as a local resident concerned about the planned changes to the leachate treatment system at the GFL Stoney Creek facility. Residents have endured persistent, strong odours for years, often described as rotten eggs, musty/septic, and chemical smells, causing discomfort and health symptoms such as headaches, throat irritation, and nausea.

Given this history, I urge the Ministry to ensure that:

Expanded, continuous air monitoring is implemented at multiple points around the facility, including early mornings and evenings.

Advanced odour mitigation technologies are incorporated into the new system.

Regular, clear communication is provided to residents regarding odour incidents and mitigation measures.

The community has been exposed to ongoing odour impacts since early 2023. Taking proactive steps now will help prevent further harm, provide accountability, and demonstrate that public health is being prioritized alongside operational efficiency.
