1.The municipality of Opasatika receives approximately between 20 to 50 annual request from individuals, families and retired couples that would like to move to our small town. This number has been consistent for the past 2 years.
2. As a small municipality ideally if we could build 5 to 10 dwellings per year for the next 5 years, we could easily sell them with the current market demand. These dwellings would be in low to medium density. The majority of enquiries are coming from young families, retired couples or the need for affordable housing. The municipality of Opasatika does have municipal property that could help start a pilot project for year 1 and 2.
3. Since we are located on corridor 11 and the increase in mining industry from Cochrane, Timmins to Geralton and the ring of Fire, we have many travelling workers that stay within our municipality and we would have more if we had houses for sale. Furthermore, we have the potential of a gold mine in our small municipality that could develop at any given time. Our municipality has many individuals that are semi retired that are healthy and would be readily available to work should a gold mine open.
4.The municipality does not currently have a 30 year old plan for land needs assessment, however with the current market demand we can easily identify that we could accommodate 5 to 10 new dwellings for the next 5 years, but would require additional land after year 2.
