ERO 025-1082
I believe this proposal for an amendment to take water 3210-AKRL9C for aggregator washing purposes should be denied.
This proposal is for an existing gravel pit that is currently licensed to extract 1.25 million tonnes annually, and has been doing so for 10 plus years.
The numbers simply don’t add up. 6,000 litres per minute, 11 hours per day with a maximum volume of 5,000,000 litres per day with no supporting documentation.
This site sits on top of a vulnerable Aquifer and a significant recharge area, while the proposed water taking qualifies as a Category 3 permit, anticipated to have the highest potential of causing unacceptable environmental interference.
Interestingly, these same numbers are included in Strada’s current proposal ERO 025-1005, for a quarry license, on the same site, allowing for the extraction of 2 million tonnes annually.
I can only conclude 2 senarios where this amount of water taking would be necessary at this time.
1 Strada is prepared to take water from the Aquifer ahead of a quarry license.
2 Strada is already taking water from the Aquifer.
For the reasons listed above, I believe this proposal should be denied.
Respectfully
