Removing bike lanes—or blocking efforts to install them—is the epitome of entitlement. It reflects a mindset that prioritizes personal convenience over community safety, sustainability, and accessibility. Countless studies have shown that removing bike lanes does not alleviate traffic congestion; in fact, it often makes it worse by discouraging alternative modes of transportation. The only real solution to congestion and urban mobility challenges is investing in diverse forms of infrastructure—bike lanes, public transit, pedestrian pathways, and safer streets for all. Choosing to oppose such progress reveals an unwillingness to share public space equitably and a resistance to the idea that cities thrive when everyone has safe, sustainable ways to get around.
