Canada has some of the highest GHG emissions per person in the world. We also have some of the highest passenger vehicle emissions per person in the whole world. Rivaled only by places like the U.S., Saudi Arabia and Australia. The average Canadian drives so much because that is their only practical option. Shifting our urban areas towards a more compact from that facilitates active transport options like cycling is a necessary and practical climate change solution.
We need bike lanes to make cycling a realistic option for most people. Cities themselves can save a lot of money in the long run by not having to build and maintain so much expensive automotive infrastructure. Additionally, the cost savings of not having to own a car (or as many cars for a family) can be life changing. Most critically, bike lanes save lives. I am a cyclist who has been hit by a car and survived with only a bad knee today, others are not so lucky.
Bill 60 is terrible for the climate, terrible for the cost of living and it will lead to more death and injury.
