The Ontario government is making foolish decisions about traffic and transportation.
Bicycle transportation is part of a sustainable future. If there is a need to maintain lanes for particular roadways, let those decisions be made case-by-case by municipal government. This provincial government is once again meddling in municipal planning.
Big cities need a multi-strategy solution for moving people. Start with funding reliable public transportation. Add a well-planned network of bicycle paths. Create car-free zones, add congestion pricing.
Cars are useful and practical but they *pollute massively* and cannot scale to meet the needs of everyone in a big city. You *must* be able to think lucidly about this problem. Cars should not overwhelm cities. Car "culture" is an anti-pattern, that is to say the *wrong way forward*.
A 400-series tunnel will quickly be saturated by traffic, like any other highway expansion. Ontario could raise taxes on rich corporations and individuals to re-assert provincial ownership of the 407 from the private company that bought it from the Mike Harris Conservatives!
And by the way... KEEP SPEED CAMERAS. You are endangering our communities by overreaching into our cities and neighbourhoods.
