Opposition to Bill 60
I strongly oppose Bill 60 and, in particular, the proposed reduction or removal of bike lanes. This measure is regressive, short-sighted, and dangerous — not only for cyclists but for the broader public who share our roads and care about creating safe, healthy, and sustainable communities.
Bike lanes save lives. They provide essential protection for cyclists, reduce traffic congestion, and encourage more people to choose active, low-emission forms of transportation. Removing or reducing them undermines years of progress toward safer streets and cleaner air.
At a time when the effects of climate change are intensifying across Ontario, the government should be investing in sustainable infrastructure, not dismantling it. Cutting bike lanes sends the wrong message: that the province is turning away from climate responsibility and community well-being in favour of outdated, car-centric policies.
This legislation ignores the needs of families, youth, seniors, and commuters who rely on cycling as an affordable, healthy, and environmentally responsible mode of travel. Ontario deserves leadership that supports forward-looking, evidence-based transportation planning — not one that puts people and progress at greater risk.
For the safety of all road users and the health of our environment, I urge you to reject Bill 60.
