To whom it may concern,
As an Industry leader in manufacturing of roofing and green roofing products and systems, we support one clear set of building standards across Ontario. Having the same rules everywhere makes it easier for builders, tradespeople, and consultants to do their work without confusion or delays.
The National Research Council of Canada (NRC), through its Climate Resilient Built Environment (CRBE) Initiative, shows that heavy rain and unpredictable storms are going to get worse in the years ahead. If we don’t prepare now, flooding will damage homes, roads, and workplaces.
To protect communities and keep construction work strong, the Province should:
- Update the stormwater management manual to match the National Research Council of Canada (NRC)’s latest scientific findings.
- Set province-wide lot-level water balance rules, including green roofs, with clear performance standards.
- Add Toronto’s Green Roof Construction Standard to the Ontario Building Code so installations are consistent everywhere.
- Offer incentives and funding for lot-level stormwater projects, which will save money by reducing the need for expensive underground sewer system replacements.
Ontario can build faster, smarter, and stronger—but only if we put resilience first. Let’s protect our communities, and let’s protect our jobs.
