11 skyscrapers in Oakville, ON will completely destroy the streetscape of this charming community. As a resident of Milton and a conservative, I am appauled at the lack of vision of this government. The densification of downtown Burlington is a disaster. Increasingly, residents have no view of the Lake and traffic has become completely gridlocked. Why do we want Oakville and Burlington to look like Hong Kong with Soviet style apartment blocks or the mess that is Toronto's waterfront. These buildings kill thousands of birds, create wind tunnels, congest streets designed for far lower levels of population, and reduce urban tree cover. You are creating communities where no one wants to live. The foundation of the Planning Act is public consultation. The use of MZO to steamroll over communities with no input whatsoever is an abuse of the entire MZO concept which was always intended to be used sparingly. This government has used MZO more than any other administration to push unwanted developments. When do you start listening to communities? No one wants this densification other than developers and aggregate companies. By the way, when are you planning to honor your promise and stop the quarry in Campbellville. I just learned the applicant has dewatered every quarry they have ever run and has applied for a massive a PTTW for the Glen Christie quarry in Cambridge for 13.75 million liters a year to dewater for extraction. Their last operation at Dolime in Guelph had the same amount water taking created a drawdown effect impacting the water supply of a municipal well over 1 km away by 50%. Dolime was the subject of another MZO to allow the City of Guelph to acquire the property and protect the municipal water supply. Yet, James Dick Construction continues to lie to this community saying they have "decades of experience in underwater blasting" and will not dewater the proposed site. My community of Campbellville is entirely on well water. When is this government going to do the right thing?
