I strongly oppose the proposed Minister’s Zoning Orders (MZOs) for the Midtown Oakville Transit-Oriented Community lands.

These MZOs would impose excessive and unprecedented density in Midtown Oakville without the necessary supporting infrastructure. The scale of development being contemplated far exceeds what existing and planned transportation networks can reasonably accommodate. Major arterial roads, local streets, transit services, the GO station, and the QEW corridor are already operating under significant congestion, and no credible, funded infrastructure plan has been presented to demonstrate how these impacts would be mitigated.

Oakville’s Official Plan Amendment 70 (OPA 70) already permits very high densities by North American standards and was developed through a transparent, evidence-based process with public input and municipal approval. It provides a balanced framework that aligns growth with infrastructure capacity, livability, and long-term community needs. There is no demonstrated planning necessity or public interest justification for overriding this approved framework through MZOs.

Imposing mega-density without adequate road capacity, transit improvements, schools, community services, and utilities will result in chronic traffic congestion, reduced safety, declining quality of life, and significant costs ultimately borne by residents and taxpayers. Growth must be coordinated with infrastructure, not forced ahead of it.

For these reasons, I urge the Ministry to withdraw and reject the proposed MZOs and allow development to proceed under OPA 70, which represents a responsible, community-supported, and infrastructure-aware approach to growth.
