As someone who travels 4 times a day through the Midtown area, I’d kindly like to voice my concern for the high towers/high density plan that is currently being proposed.
Already, several times a month, I witness, first hand, the congestion at the Trafalgar/Cornwall intersection that is causing drivers to be unable to make left turns through multiple light changes because this congestion is preventing the clearance of the intersection. It also makes Go Transit pedestrians sometimes make risky decisions in trying to cross the intersection and walking between cars. Adding high towers close to this area is going to increase the frequency of this heavy congestion significantly.
Because of the east/west train tracks, congestion cannot be improved in the north/south arteries (like Trafalgar) without building an expensive underpass. Public transit cannot possibly alleviate the added congestion of the large number of new residences as only a portion will be using public transit.
This high density type of living is also far too close to the neighbourhood of Olde Oakville and it’s historical homes. Increased traffic on Reynolds and Douglas is all but guaranteed. To have towers, this high, in close proximity to a low density quiet area, is a radical change that will overwhelm the area and erode the character and charm that Olde Oakville is renowned for.
Please take the time to listen to the voices of those who live and work in this area, and are only asking for you to consider other options that would be sympathetic in design and density to the neighbourhoods nearby.
Thank you for your time,
