MZO re 11 building in Oakville bounded by Argus Rd. & Cross Ave.
It is not appropriate for the Ontario Provincial Government to issue an MZO to approve the proposed construction of 11 high rise buildings in midtown Oakville. This should be a decision made by the Oakville Town Council based on the input of Oakville residents.
My objections are three-fold.
The traffic caused by the construction of 11 buildings (ranging from 45 to 56 stories) in an area of 4.9 hectares in midtown Oakville will be overwhelming. Even though Trafalgar Road has been expanded to a total of six lanes in recent years the traffic on this main road through Oakville is already busy morning, noon and night. To add approximately an additional 6,000 units to this area is preposterous and without any form of insight or logic by this Provincial Government.
The second issue is the type of housing, which will all be high market value condos and/or rentals. The condo market is dead and the only winners in this development will be Doug Ford’s developer friends, which I think says it all. What tax revenue will be realized by Oakville if these buildings stand vacant? In Ontario there is also a huge problem regarding affordable housing. This will only add to the existing problem, as I can’t imagine that either these developers or Doug Ford have any interest in addressing this problem.
And finally the two points above lead me to the heart of the problem – a corrupt Ontario Provincial Government that does what it wants when and where it wants with no checks or balances in place, as shown by the use of MZOs. This is Trump type government at its worst.
