Comments regarding Oakville development.

Dear Minister,
I really don’t know why I have to write you regarding MZO. I followed closely all the debates related to the Transit-Oriented Community (TOC) planned for Midtown Oakville. I even made a presentation at the Oakville council to show that the most attractive touristic cities in Europe and some in North America do not have the architectural city structures that you try to impose on Oakville. You must have heard how our Council and the citizens of Oakville are against MZO.
Contrary to some groups who tend to oppose some provincial projects without attempting to find a solution we are proposing what we believe is a better plan.

Oakville already has a responsible, Council-approved plan for Midtown — OPA 70 — that supports growth while respecting infrastructure limits and livability. These MZOs are unnecessary and risk undermining that plan.
A lot of resources and efforts went into the preparation of this plan including the work of hundred of volunteers that used their free time to provide their input. They have done that because they care, love Oakville, and want to ensure that the development of our town will maintain the character of an exceptional quality of life.

Please, Mister Minister, do not succumb to the financial interests of the developers. Please consider the common good. We ask you to proceed with OPA 70, that is a responsible, deliverable, community-supported plan that is aligned with the changing market.
Your refusal to cancel this MZO will be an expression of misuse of provincial power that resembles the governance failures exposed in the Greenbelt scandal; and a form of harassment of a population that has done its homework and is offering a constructive cooperation. I count on a similar cooperation on your part in this significant endeavour.
