This site has been used continuously for hauled sewage disposal for more than 30 years without testing and assessing possible environmental impacts. Why is this site and its operator not required to perform both surface and groundwater monitoring to assess the impacts associated with hauled sewage disposal. The property is adjacent to wetlands and Oak Lake to the northwest and adjacent to wetlands to the south east.
Other hauled sewage disposal sites in Minden, Haliburton and Kawartha Lakes require some type of groundwater and surface water monitoring which provides local residents with a sense that the MECP and the operator is ensuring due diligence for the protection of the local groundwater and surface water in those regions. I wonder why this site has been given an exception given its close proximity to wetlands, Public Golf Courses, Community Parks and a Community Centre with a municipal well. Also the town of Norland and the close proximity of the Gull River. I think these concerns should be taken into consideration just as they have with the other hauled sewage disposal sites in the area.
