Yonge and Eglinton is a vibrant community that is currently struggling due to the abundance of construction. The sewage system is stressed, residents are losing sunlight and there is no natural green space. For a community that is supposed to be about families, the neighbourhood has nothing to offer new and old residents. Option #3 is the plan most consistent with the Growth Plan (2017) and the Provincial Policy Statement (2014). This plan supports a livable community, as defined by the city so I ask that you vote for option 3. It is a reasonable compromise between residents and planners. It takes into consideration liveability and employment. I've walked along Broadway Avenue past the track and field at North Toronto Collegiate. During summer and even on nice winter days, I see families playing with their young children, teenagers taking photos of each other, presumably for Instagram or Snapchat, seniors getting their evening exercise and a guy sleeping on the turf. This is the only green space in the area, mind you, it is artificial green space in the immediate neighbourhood. I saw parents with strollers, watching their kids run around the parking lot at St. Monica’s church because there is no green space in the neighbourhood. Instead, there are plans to put 40-, 50- and 60-something condos on these three streets. The planners promise a park street loop but yet based on the City’s own plan, residents may not be able to walk that park loop for another decade or two. People who are invested in the city live there and deserve to live in an area that is a neighbourhood, not just a sequel to City Place. Let us learn from previous planning mistakes and take what makes a neighbour liveable into consideration.
