I have lived in the Yonge and Eglinton neighbourhood for almost 20 years and have seen many changes. What is happening now has me very concerned and questioning those in charge! I understand the metrolinx construction and will try to endure the traffic issues it is causing which is very frustrating. On top of that, there are so many developments in such a small area, without any other infrastructure assistance, it is absolutely crazy. Come on down at 8:30am or 5pm in the evening on a side street and enjoy the congestion because everyone has to take alternate routes due to no turning on main streets. I have literally never seen anything like it. I wonder if the planners have ever played SIM city - it is a game and it reminds you as you are building you need to add things........otherwise chaos, unhappy people and you lose the game. Well Toronto, you are losing the game at Yonge and Eglinton. You seem to have let every developer go ahead with their proposals to destroy single story houses and create high rise concrete jungles just to bank more property taxes. It will become a place that no one wants to come to because the congestion will be as bad as downtown Toronto without the draw of theatre, shopping. This will hurt businesses (many have closed, or are struggling already). Everyone will continue to park illegally on the side streets because there is not enough public parking for all the high rises and # of units going in ,it is already out of control. For too long, provincial rules have favoured developers over people. This plan needs to be approved so that growth occurs much more responsibly and to ensure that: Social services such as childcare, seniors supports, and youth recreation programs are in place to support residents quality of life Green space, public squares, community centres, are provided to make Yonge-Eglinton a more liveable neighbourhood Hard infrastructure, such as pipes and wires, are adequate to make our community work in the long term New transit options, including single-fare express buses on major north-south routes, are created to relieve pressure on the overcrowded Yonge subway line.
