I wish to comment on the development of Midtown Toronto. My major concerns are: The provincial perspective understandably needs to be bigger picture, however I would urge you to consider tow factors: The natural environment of Canada's largest city The impact on families Access to resources and infrastructure Affordability of housing is vital to Canadian families, as is the need to raise children in areas where access to the natural environment is easy and well planned. Planting tress along boulevards and cramped soulless play areas are not enough. Children need large parks with trees and space to run and play. They need to see trees on their way to school and have the opportunity to value their natural surroundings. Swathes of monoculture lawns are insufficient as are vast high-rises where children only catch glimpses of the sky. Families also need access to good schools and the signs in Davisville that already discourage families from purchasing apartments because there are insufficient school places in the area are not acceptable. The current TTC services in the area are inadequate and having experienced growth in many cities in the world (Vancouver, Hong Kong and London) city planner regularly underestimate the traffic on roads and the use of public transit and services. Not wishing to simply gripe about the problems I would like to offer a solution. Minimal high rise development, commitment to mixed housing and for every tree cut down two are planted. A large park, taking advantage of any existing old growth trees and planting new ones. Increased length of subway trains as well as increased frequency. Many thanks for your time.
