At the least,I am advocating for the acceptance of OPA 405 However, I along with many citizens/voters in St.Paul's riding would rather a total moratorium on further high rise building. Further consultation though would give developers the time to continue with their audacious abuse of citizens rights. An immediate moratorium on building would prevent this ridiculous non-stop building from happening. This should be done until and as such time that the proper infrastructure can be put in place and properly applied. The unfettered construction in this area has resulted, in horrendous traffic congestion, pedestrian chaos, dirt, dust, filthy streets and sidewalks, loss of light, loss of views, wind tunnel effects, impassable sidewalks...seniors are having difficulty getting around, deterioration of quality of life, severe overcrowding and leaving little space between buildings. It is expected that tens of thousands more will move into this area in the coming years. This will only exacerbate the current problem. The current infrastructure ranging from social services to sewage and water mains to transportation cannot cope with the present population. It will be even more inadequate to do so with the current designation to further increase the high rise buildings and population. As many architects have said and any intelligent person would observe, the rapid construction of buildings has resulted in poor quality construction. In twelve to fifteen years many of the buildings in the area of Yonge/Eglinton will need major work. Will the owners have the money to pay the special assessments required to correct these deficiencies? If not, these buildings will then take on the appearance of slums...this in the middle of the City of Toronto. We need only observe what happened at St.James Town. Do we want an area that can still maintain some semblance of sanity that is developed in a sensible way or an area that is best suited to a dog eat dog way of life?
