As senior citizens living in the Yonge/Eglinton area for the last two years, we have noticed an increase in shadowing and a decrease in sunlight, due to the height of the new buildings. We find it difficult to walk easily around our neighbourhood since the sidewalks are frequently blocked by construction vehicles. The construction sites often spill over on to the sidewalk and part of the adjacent roadway. The dust thrown up by the excavations makes breathing difficult for older adults and small children. It is becoming dangerous to try to board the subway in the morning. We fear that commuters may be jostled off the platform and on to the tracks due to overcrowding. The rest of the infrastructure in the neighbourhood is under immense pressure even without any further large building projects. Thé road surfaces are showing more wear and tear than average since the concrete trucks and large dump trucks are regularly travelling along the area roads. We support the Yonge-Eglinton Official Plan Amendment #405 (OPA 405) as adopted by the City of Toronto.
