I am in support of the HOV lanes open to motorcycles when a single rider. The greatest priority is the safety this will provide to a rider. When on the highway, riders are at a larger risk of being injured by other drivers in vehicles and trucks because they fail to notice us, and have an even harder time judging our distance and speed. Being in heavy or stopped traffic on a highway is dangerous for motorcycles; we are "sitting ducks". Allowing us the option to keep moving is the safest practice. Most motorcyclists will avoid highways, if possible, because of the dangers in traffic as well as in warmer weather, overheating becomes a huge risk when sitting in traffic.
As a newer rider of 3 years and a 40-year-old mother of 3 boys, I would like all my travels to be as safe as possible, and believe the Ministry of Transport needs to put more measures in place to allow a safer road for those who choose a motorcycle. At the end of the day, I would like to make it home to my children and every little bit helps; we all share the road and including a single rider in the HOV lane will provide a safe, non-congested ride, and hopefully will assist in decreasing the number of accidents and deaths to a motorcyclist caused from highway traffic.
