Having read the documentation, we have reasons to believe that, contrary to Colacem’s statements, used water discharged by the Cement Plant in the Charlebois creek towards the Ottawa River will contain serious amount of cadmium and other heavy metals. This could seriously pollute the Ottawa River and constitute a very serious public health threat to the population who use the water from the Ottawa River for drinking water. We believe that heavy metals are not filtered by Municipal Water Stations downstream or by many residents’ own water treatment system for their drinking water. In addition, the heavy metals would also constitute a major threat to the wildlife of the Ottawa and Ste-Laurence Rivers. Moreover, cumulative effects from Ivaco Still Mill and the quarry might have a cumulative effect on this matter. This portion of the Ottawa river is heavily used by thousands of pleasure boats during the summer months from May till October ! Thousands of children and parents swim in these waters! Think of the health consequences!
