These comments represent my own views as a practicing RPF in Southern Ontario, however they are consistent with opinions of senior staff of Simcoe County and former Councillors.
I am supportive of the proposed changes and approach to reduce duplication and encourage efficiencies in the planning process. I would encourage you, however, to take this opportunity to consider exempting the crown lands south of the Area of Undertaking entirely. I have attached a letter which very nicely summarizes the reasons why there has been no timber harvesting conducted on crown lands in Southern Ontario since the establishment of the CFSA in 1994. In stark contrast, Simcoe County continues to reinvest revenues from harvesting back into enhanced management activities including invasive species control and managing recreational use. Our program is resulting in approximately 200 direct jobs, and facilitating discussion and education regarding the benefits of managing our forest resources.
