As a property owner on a nearby lake, business owner servicing clients in this area and a life long resident of Haliburton county I am very much against this proposed sewage site and disturbed deeply that it has even advanced this far. On a personal level, the environmental impact sewage run off can and will have is terrifying. I am fortunate enough to own waterfront property on Maple Lake. I purchased property on Maple Lake with the expectation of providing an opportunity for my two daughters to grow up surrounded by all that the lake has to offer. Our lake is tremendous for all activities - swimming, boating, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, snow shoeing, snowmobiling, bird and nature watching. These activities are also what attracts tourists to our area which is the only industry (tourism) supporting our local economy. I, and so so many other residents, are intrinsically dependent on our lakes for our financial success. Our lakes are what attracts visitors to our area. We can not survive economically without the health of these lakes and waterways. Introducing a very very real probability of contamination into these waterways not only threatens my family’s enjoyment of these lakes but more alarmingly threatens our health and safety along with the thousands of other residents, visitors, and water life using these lakes and waterways. This very real threat of lake contamination also threatens my business’s success and thereby my personal financial well being - along with the thousands of other local residents who depend on our tourism for income. I am pleading to the provincial government to carefully consider the disastrous harmful consequences of granting this proposal. Allowing this operator to haul and dump sewage waste to a site so closely located to so waterways would be careless and irresponsible of any governmental body. This proposal cannot be granted.
