I wish to support strongly keeping Wabakimi Park as a true wilderness park without fly- in fishing camps and without other motorized transport such as motor boats and snow machines or ATVs. I understand that MNR is considering allowing increased o unfitting businesses with cabins, motor boats, etc in the park. My suggestion would be that the park should strive to remove all motorized boat and snow machine traffic that is already in the park, not add more. The last two canoe trips that I made to the park were both disturbed by motor boats, noise and trash on several lakes that I portaged into. These disturbances are disappointing in an otherwise pristine natural area. There should be some places in the provincial parks system that are protected as wilderness with no compromises....no motor boats, no cabins and docks, no snow machines. Woodland Caribou are an endangered species provincially and continue to decline as human disturbance intrudes more and more into the boreal forests of northern Ontario. Wabakimi Park provides a safe natural reservoir for this species. Extreme measures to safeguard this wilderness area should be a high priority for the MNR and should not be compromised.
