I agree with producers being responsible for the financial cost of recycling, and I am pleased to see a plan for expanding and standardizing the list of recyclable materials, but I am NOT in favour of producers being responsible for collection and oversight.
We have long-established municipal systems for collections, and those should not be dismantled.
Oversight for recycling and environmental impacts should stay with the government. Making those who stand to profit from exploiting the environment responsible for not exploiting the environment is a recipe for disaster. It’s an inherent conflict of interest.
