I think expanding the Greenbelt is a great idea and something that is greatly needed to stop the eradication of thousands of species endangered due to loss of habitat.
Protecting the Moraines and River Valleys are vital to provide and maintain rich habitats and the travel corridors for a multitude of species. It provides an area for native plants to thrive, and the Moraines are crucial water filtration systems. We have the highest biodiversity in the country but also the most species at risk due to population and development pressures. Adding, expanding and further protecting Urban River Valleys are important to wildlife, waterfowl, marine life and the native plants in the area.
We need to protect our farmlands, but not at the expense of our water. Protecting waterways from agricultural run-off needs to be a priority. Warming waters are being exacerbated by pesticides, fecal and chemical bacteria from farm run-off that are forming toxic algae in our waterways destroying marine life. Strict restrictions to the use of these chemicals around waterways in the protected areas is crucial. Run-off can travel a great distance during heavy rains or melting snow, therefore there should be a minimum distance from waterways that is regulated.
