Over the past twenty odd years, removal of aggregate from the Miller Boyington Pit #3 has been relatively limited with the exception of the past couple of years. Suddenly, in 2020 the removal of material appeared to escalate dramatically with much of the extracted material apparently being transported to the Vicdom pit on Brock Road just south of Coppins Corners. It is interesting to note that this dramatic increase in activity at the subject pit appears to have coincided with initial stages of the current application process to permit the importation of fill to the pit from off-site locations. In view of where much of the extracted material was apparently being taken, the question that should be asked is, “Was this increase in activity designed at least in part to increase the potential volume of material that could be imported into the pit should the current application be approved?” Based on previous actions of the Boyington Pit #3 license holder, such action would appear not be out of character.
