Miller Paving Limited
ERO No. 018-3449
I must say that we found the Miller Paving Limited proposal and background documentation very disturbing. We came away quite concerned about the long term effect on our precious water sources. Our fondest wish at the moment is that the Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry will quickly reject the Miller proposal and, going forward, use its powers to compel Miller to comply with the rules and regulations of the legislation that governs its operation. It is folly to think that the transfer of the oversight function to the Township of Uxbridge would not end badly. The Township does not have the resources, nor would it have the power, to effectively govern the pit operators' behaviour and ensure the preservation of our water resources. And Miller would only be the first. Many pit operators across Ontario could well try to do the same thing. With the Miller precedent firmly in place, they could likely succeed.
The Ministry has the opportunity to 'stop this train before it leaves the station'. Please do so. Don't let the decision fall to the Township to agree or not agree to accept the transfer; they might not do the right thing. The potential for serious harm to our water is just to great to ignore.
