- Concerned about contamination implications on neighbouring environment and waterways.
- MOE states Ontario septage is high in pollutional characteristics.
- Untreated raw sewage should be dealt with in a municipal treatment plant with proper procedures, equipment, testing, and oversight. To dump waste on land with no 3rd party oversight would seem to be a conflict of interest.
- Raw sewage contains pathogenic bacteria and viruses.
- Untreated raw sewage contains heavy metals which will accumulate.
- Concerned that depth of drainage system may be too close to the soil surface and the depth of the water table may be too shallow.
- We know the connected properties directly on right and left sides of proposed site are used for cattle grazing, which would not meet the guidelines of waiting period for grazing, related to public health and pathogens (we or anyone else certainly would not want to eat beef grazing on or near the fence line. Canadians are supposed to be proud and confident in their food system).
- Proposed property is not zoned for disposal of raw septic waste.
- The proposed property is located on a floodplain that does flood, covering adjacent pastures and cropland. It also has 2 creeks running through it, which would flush septage downstream (pardon the pun).
- The untreated septage is a pollutant and will contain litter and chemicals, which will contaminate the nearby waterways.
- The surface spreading of untreated hauled sewage will certainly produce major odour continuously (it will not be applied just twice a year).
- Dumping of raw sewage negates all efforts that Strathroy-Caradoc has implemented to reduce pollution of our freshwater systems and aquifers. (All new builds in the towns must go through a treatment facility.)
