Good morning, I appreciate the work that you do. An item of great disparity is excluded in your proposals of which I am compelled to comment. You appear to have overlooked the restrictions of the use of black powder only in WMU 92. I believe that this is a discriminatory practice of which makes no sense. I understand that this was put in place in the 80's by special interest groups and it is time that this is adjusted to allow shot guns to be used during the controlled hunts. I ask to have this restriction be removed for the following reasons.
Farmers, land owners and residents are forced to purchase one more firearm which has limited use
Shot guns are every bit as lethal as black powder rifles
New hunters (youth) have to purchase a single use firearm which is not conducive to encouraging new hunters
The newer black powder rifles far exceed the range of shotguns and caution must be used in confirming the backdrop (this has been confirmed by gun ranges having 200 yard back stops for sighting in)
A single shot black powder may contribute to the wounding and losing of a deer due to reload duration
Shot guns are permitted in multiple WMU's and are regulated by the Ministry for gauge, shot size and shell capacity.
The Ministry also regulates time of day, seasons, appropriate orange attire for all hunters
All rules apply equally except for the restriction to black powder in WMU 92
Because of the hunting restriction of limiting to black powder only, deer vehicle collisions remain at a high level in Middlesex, Elgin and Oxford Counties Please check with the OPP stats.
Coyote populations are increasing.
Please consider my appeal for fairness for all hunters and those that wish to hunt.
Thank you
