In accordance with Metrolinx's so-called "Green Alignment" plan, they are tunnelling under a low density neighborhood, a local elementary school and now they have requested to bypass their obligations under the Endangered Species Act 2007 in order to construct the Yonge North Subway Extension (YNSE). Apparently, building the YNSE through a low density neighbourhood will bring so much socio-economic benefit that the destruction of habitats and species doesn't matter. I am appalled that Metrolinx has requested to bypass their environmental obligations because we are all hyper aware of the importance of preserving natural habitats and species. Preserving natural habitats and species plays a huge part in promoting better mental/physical health as we are able to walk/run/cycle through a path. The YNSE belongs on Yonge Street.

Furthermore, keeping the subway route on Yonge Street, by Metrolinx’s own analysis, would generate:
✓ 73% more new transit riders,
✓ 131% greater decrease in vehicle kilometres travelled, and
✓ 131% greater reduction in greenhouse gas emissions annually than a route that tunnels under the Royal Orchard community.
Metrolinx needs to be stopped. Please deny Metrolinx's request to bypass their obligations under the Endangered Species Act 2007. Keep the subway on Yonge Street.
