Please keep in mind that the large urban boundary expansion being proposed in Smithville would have too many negative impacts on the sensitive Twenty Mile Creek. As a birdwatcher, I know that many sensitive and rare bird species use this habitat regularly. We need to protect wetlands seriously today if we are to maintain our water quality and quantity for human uses. This urban expansion would also threaten an "important wildlife corridor south of the Niagara Escarpment, in Niagara Falls, in the headwaters area of the Ten Mile Creek which provides important amphibian breeding habitat." (Preservation of Agricultural Lands Society, Niagara Region).
We should all be asking ourselves what impact our actions have on our climate today -- BEFORE finalizing any project. Please remain well informed of how your decisions may negatively impact your tax-payers in the short and long terms with regards to climate. Cities need to grow more densely and upwards rather than traditionally approving never-ending expansion of urban development. That will surely threaten our lives if continued without much thought to changing our ways for the betterment of society.
