I am against any changes to the Greenbelt lands as designated in the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation plan.
I have lived the majority of my life in this area and understand the vital importance of these lands and waterways to the health of our environment.
Developers have many other areas to use which will have much less of an impact on our farmland and watershed. Consider areas which already have development potential before allowing any development on this important area. Once it’s lost the designation, the impacts that will have cannot be reversed.
Fast tracking the development of these protected lands reflects the an extreme lack of foresight in my opinion and also asks me to question just who would benefit from this.
I believe it’s wealthy developers, not the citizens who already live here and future generations, who stand to benefit and once this precedent is set, it will become an accepted practice.
We need to accept the stewardship required to protect these lands and watershed areas.
