This is a terrible proposal. The Greenbelt is not a random selection of land that can be cut up and remain functional as a whole. The Greenbelt is a purposeful selection of land that forms a contiguous ecosystem that depends on all of its organs to function. Cutting out sections, even with the intention to put back other, different, sections of land, is not an environmentally sound option.

Expansion of housing is important, and easily accomplished within the confines of existing lands. Rezoning and zoning regulation changes are the key. Single family homes have proliferated all across the farmlands of Ontario, a tragedy itself, but also an opportunity to easily densify without further sprawl.

Lastly, kill the 413 as this is an abomination of greed and unnecessary sprawl. History, statistics and common sense prove time and again that highways do not create density or help to move people that need to transit distances. Highways open new sprawl, but we have enough of that already and it is time to densify not to sprawl more. Trains and mass transit are needed to move people between the already sprawled northern and western regions of the GTA.
