Opening supposedly protected green spaces to development defeats the whole point of protecting these spaces.
Urban sprawl is a huge problem, and allowing developers free reign to protected lands sets a terrible precedent for removing protections from other green spaces.
Besides the irreplaceable loss of our rapidly shrinking green spaces, this kind of development can only lead to more sprawl, travel-related pollution, and extremely inneficent use of existing lots in urban areas.
Instead of allowing our natural heritage to be SD off to the highest bidder, we should be finding ways to make use of space already available in our cities, and incorporating affordable housing so people aren't forced to leave cities.
