I do not support the proposed amendments to the Greenbelt Plan. It is shortsighted and destructive to currently protected areas that were designated to preserve and protect rural farmland and natural watersheds. Once lost, farmland and watershed integrity cannot be recovered. Municipalities who have declared intention to increase development within current urban boundaries are to be applauded for their foresight and initiative to preserve our essential natural and rural farmlands, rather than being overridden in favour of perpetuated urban sprawl that serves primarily to line the pockets of developers while not actually addressing issues of sustainable communities and affordable housing.
