Proposed redesignation of land under the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan 019-6218
I oppose this proposal. The Oak Ridges Moraine Plan was established to protect the Oak Ridges Moraine, a key source of water for Southern Ontario and a significant wildlife highway. The Oak Ridges Moraine Plan was last reviewed and approved in 2017 with the next review to be conducted in 2027. This watershed is critical to the province’s future and requires continued and ongoing protection.
The proposal confirms that an additional burden would be placed on the lands that have been identified for removal from the moraine plan, this additional burden would be at the expense of our future generations. The proposal states that little cost would be associated with this change, however, this only assesses the potential “rezoning” costs and does not include the costs associated with servicing this land which has limited or no servicing currently. This accompanied by the removal, under Bill 23, for municipalities to assess development charges to pay for this same servicing will result in a very significant burden on municipalities and their tax paying citizens.
Again I state that I am opposed to the proposed amendments to the redesignation of land under the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan.
