I support all of the conservation authorities and organizations which raised their concerns around this bill.

This should absolutely not move forward as it threatens protected areas, Greenspan conservation, and the health of the biodiversity in the Greenbelt. We are in a biodiversity crisis. We need to assess whether species at risk are being affected by this development. We also need to understand that development will have impacts on surrounding waterways due to potential runoff, floodplain need to be considered; and most importantly, farmland (which we need to feed our growing population). Protected areas like the greenbelt should absolutely not be developed, and it would be a step backward in our conservation goals.
Development should not be expanded, there is space for improving and adding housing within existing boundaries already. Hamilton, for example, should not expand its urban boundary. This would threaten farmland, further affect waterways and Lake Ontario (which we rely on as a freshwater source) and destroy important habitat. We cannot have development in protected areas; they are protected for a reason! We cannot afford to lose more natural spaces. Climate change, biodiversity loss, food security, and ecosystem degradation are all interconnected and we need to work with nature, not continue to destroy it.
