Hello, I am a resident of Beaches - East York, and a childcare worker. I would like to voice my extreme concern at the proposal to allow development on Greenbelt land in Bill 23. We are in a climate crisis, our environment, biodiversity, our land, and our very survival is in peril. We must treat this like the emergency that it is, and absolutely not allow for protected lands to be developed. Adding more land to the Greenbelt would be excellent, but we must not allow any of its current land to be developed. There is absolutely a housing crisis- as a renter in Toronto I feel it acutely. But there are many alternatives to solving the housing crisis and increasing urban density that do not involve destroying protected land.
