Increasing housing density…

Commentaire

Increasing housing density is a worthy goal. However, this proposal is anti-democratic.

Removing upper-tier approval of local plans sets back the planning system 30 years. Central control from Queen's Park or the Premier's Office is anti-democratic.

Removing citizen's ability to appeal decisions is also anti-democratic.

Eliminating Conservation Authorities' appeals and restricting their comments to natural hazards also sets the planning system back 30 years. Conservation Authorities replaced provincial ministries environmental role in the planning system 30 years ago. Now there will be no agency providing environmental review. Few municipalities have this expertise and staff complement to do the work.

These proposals are deeply flawed and should be withdrawn.
