As a resident that lives within less than 2km of the proposed sewage disposal proposed site, I have many concerns. The proposed site intersects a stream that bifurcates and runs along many of the residents properties in the area. These streams are also an essential source of survival for wildlife in the area. With the disposal of untreated sewage on this property I fear that the toxins and contaminates will cause contamination of our streams, fields, wildlife habitat, cattle and livestock. Not to mention, in this area all residents are on well water (our drinking water). The dumping of untreated sewage will affect our quality of drinking water. As the United Nations explicitly states, "human right to water and sanitation and acknowledged that clean drinking water and sanitation are essential to the realisation of all human rights. The Resolution calls upon States and international organizations to provide financial resources, help capacity-building and technology transfer to help countries, in particular developing countries, to provide safe, clean, accessible and affordable drinking water and sanitation for all." I believe the untreated sewage water will leach into our water table in the area effecting the quality of our drinking water, possibly introducing toxins into our water that could be detrimental to our health. The United Nations also states that, "unclean water and poor sanitation are the world's second biggest killer of children. It has been calculated that 443 million school days are lost each year to water-related illness". For these reasons I fear that the disposal of this waste will be very detrimental to our health, as well as our crops, livestock and the wildlife in the area. I believe that this dump has no place in our municipality (or any for that matter) and it should be disposed of at an appropriate treatment facility that has the ability to take raw, untreated human waste/sewage in an environmentally conscious manner.
