This proposal is extremely concerning and disconcerting, and I hope this proposed inhumane treatment of wild animals will be roundly condemned.
The rationales provided, such as “exercising dogs in the off-season” , are ludicrous. As the owner of a beagle, I exercise her each day by walking her for a minimum of one hour, and taking her on wilderness trails, off leash . She is fit and healthy and would never be used to hunt other animals.
This proposed “sport” is cruel and will lead to unnecessary suffering for wild animals. I initially thought that the text of the proposal was a parody when it crossed my desk. “Sports” such as this are indications that humanity is regressing in terms of animal rights and respect for wildlife. It is barbaric and uncivilized to hunt animals in pens and enclosures. I urge the government of Ontario to ban this practice. I am shocked and, indeed, disgusted by this proposal.
