For those traumatized by the Ssonix explosion, and Ryan Konkin's ensuing death, there is already a deep distrust of the Ssonix owners. They have literally made us feel unsafe in our neighbourhood. Should the business be allowed to open before the owners answer to the multiple counts against them would only further deepen that distrust, cause distrust in the justice system and the city of St. Catharines. Our neighbourhood of Port Weller East still doesn't know if we have a second way out should another industrial explosion occur. In light of all of this, it would appear to be a tone-deaf money grab of both the Ssonix owners and the City of St. Catharines if Ssonix is allowed to open again, especially before the owners are held accountable.
