I was appalled to understand that a hazardous waste facility was metres away from I live. This was the “worse kept secret”. Driving through the “soft core” industrial park shows little noise, pollution, etc. that would suggest any activity to be concerned about. In addition some of the industries in the same hub have signage which can depict the nature of what is occurring on their sites. The Trillium Gardens residential community is a small but densely populated locale of mostly seniors. The Ssonix facility in their past did not provide safeguards nor knowledge to anyone residing close of their high risk nature and potential impact to our community. The day of the facility mishap affected our senior population in relation to ground shocks, home/building integrity, air quality, pollutant debris on our , roofs, varnish-like material spray on our homes, vehicles, and streets.
It is evident that the needed emergency response to this mess was inadequate. This still remains without reassurance from the city that measures are now in place. Given this failure, I cannot accept/ support the Ssonix application due to the potential future for another catastrophic event without safeguards or protocols for the health and safety of our residential community. This facility is no longer a “fit” in our area given the growing of our residential community. The nature of our precious land use is changing and this facility can no longer be apart of it .
