I can personally attest, any kind of living ash tree in southern Ontario is exceedingly rare. I strongly believe any efforts to protect ash trees in general would be futile, if they haven’t died already, they will.
Further to that, there were efforts through quarantine, to keep the ash borer from moving north east of Windsor into Ontario. These efforts failed because they were at least 2-3 years too late. Even if the quarantine was set up earlier, the borer would have likely flown right over, and found host trees past the quarantine
I’m certain measures to protect any variety of ash tree has already failed, as it’s too late.
