On the Ash Grove site specific standard, I am against the allowance of a 10 year implementation period. I am concerned that in another 10 years or less the standards will change and they will still be behind. Too many times companies claim the pollution will only exceed standards in rare situations but there are so many examples of these situations happening more often than are initially implied. Brushing off the need to reduce pollution because it only exceeds once in awhile is not putting the health of people first. I assume they have a “safety first” motto for their workers, which is a must. So it must be safety first for our environment not safety when we can afford it and get to it.
Either way, they are polluting and they know it. So fix it. The cement industry is one of the most polluting and contributors of greenhouse gases and other pollutants, close to the same as a steel mill. We must stop letting time go because of money, we either spend now or spend more later on health care of those affected by the pollution. Not to mention the non-human ecology.
Ecology and environment before money and greed. We’ll pay with more lives now and later unless we start to pay with money now.
